A friend and I heard about this new pickleball club trying to get members. We decided to give it a try. They offered to loan us paddles and gave free lessons. After one lesson we purchased our own paddles because we were hooked. That was 5 years ago and I still can't get enough of this game. By the way, that club now has over 500 members.

I had never in my life been any kind of athlete. Sports in high school was a miserable experience. When the coach yelled to "keep your eye on the ball", I had no idea what that meant. Of course, I WAS pinching my eyes shut as the ball came near. Since I've never found any kind of exercise or fitness class to be fun, it's amazing to me that I became so crazy about pickleball. I discovered muscles that hadn't been used in years, but the pain was worth the fun I was having. It took a while for me to learn to consistently get the ball over the net AND in bounds. It took a while longer to discover the strategies involved in the game. I'm still learning to use those strategies and place the ball where I want it. No easy task!

Pickleball is such a great physical (and mental) activity, but it goes beyond the game for me. I have met such wonderful, fun, encouraging people in this sport, and that is a huge part of why I can't wait to get to the next game!
